The topic of “strengthening the immune system” is on everyone’s mind worldwide. We also want to write another blog post about this, because we see the urgency of continuing to strengthen the topic of the immune system in the media. A lot is obvious, but maybe we can provide an aha-moment with one or the other tip. There are many ways to strengthen the immune system and diet plays a major role in this. But let’s start from the beginning. What is the job of our immune system anyway?
Task of the immune system
Our immune system is our defense. It is there to recognize foreign invaders such as bacteria, viruses or fungi and, in the best case, to ward them off directly. The immune system is one of the most complex systems in the body. It consists of several organs such as bone marrow, thymus, spleen, tonsils, lymph nodes, as well as different tissues, cell types and molecules. Everything is perfectly coordinated and the two units: the innate (non-specific) and the acquired (specific) immune system work hand in hand. Those who have a strong immune system are less likely to get sick and generally have more energy.

An intact but weakened immune system can be revitalized with a few tips. A healthy lifestyle is fundamental. Here are our 12 tips:
- Healthy and balanced diet, plant-based (read more here)
- Fill up on vitamin D in the sun and supplement in the winter months
- Drink lots of water and tea
- Reduce stress and practice relaxation exercises
- go for a walk in the fresh air every day
- Exercise, but don’t overexert your body
- get enough sleep
- wash your hands regularly and thoroughly
- Consume alcohol and caffeine in moderation
- live smoke free
- air regularly and make sure the room temperature is correct (approx. 20° Celsius)
- train the immune system with alternating showers
Immune system strengthening recipes to mix
As our tip number 3 says: Drink lots of water!
Why not add an extra kick to the water? With ginger and lemon? Not only does it give the water a delicious taste, but it also enriches the water with vitamin C, magnesium, iron, calcium, potassium, sodium and phosphorus. All minerals and vitamins that also strengthen the immune system. For this we mix:
- a thumb-sized piece of ginger
- a sliced lemon
- 1 liter of water
Blend everything in the blender for about a minute. Pour into a carafe and drink throughout the day. Works great with other fruits too.
Smoothies are the first choice at bianco di puro when it comes to healthy recipes. They are the perfect choice when it comes to accommodating a large amount of fruit and vegetables on a daily basis. We prefer to drink our smoothie as the first meal of the day. With our to-go blender jug, you can also conveniently drink the smoothie outside the house. Here is our immune booster smoothie:
- A handful of kale
- A kiwi
- An orange
- juice of a lemon
- 200ml orange juice
- 300ml of water
Mix all the ingredients into a smoothie using the smoothie program and enjoy straight away. We also recommend using the vacuum pump, which prevents oxidation by removing the oxygen, so that the vitamins are almost completely preserved.
